About Me

Hey! My name is Zahid Hossain, and I’ve been a photographer since 2015. I was born and raised in Spring, TX, and I graduated from UT Austin in 2023 with a degree in Computer Engineering. Please take some time to explore my portfolio, as it’s quite diverse!

My photography journey started during my freshman year of high school when I joined the Klein ISD Robotics Team, VorTX 3735. I started learning 3D CAD modeling. Coincidentally, our CAD leader was also the Photography Lead of the team, and she asked if any of us would be interested in taking pictures for the team during meetings and competitions. I had very little experience in photography (I only knew how to click the shutter button in auto mode), but I was very interested in being a part of the photography team anyways, so my dad let me take his old Canon Rebel T3.

One of our CAD mentors, a full-time engineer, was also a photography enthusiast. He taught me the principles of photography along with teaching me how to control the camera settings completely manually. He opened up an entirely new door for me in life, and I can’t thank him enough for it.

Then there came the day that I discovered the magical RAW file type. I remember switching my camera to shoot RAW for the first time while I was exploring the new ExxonMobil campus during a robotics outreach event. When I got home and started editing the RAW files, I was shocked. The RAW files preserved details in the highlights and shadows that would otherwise be lost in a JPEG file, and I was able to adjust white balance like nobody’s business. I couldn’t believe that I never shot in RAW before. Since then, I’ve been an extreme advocate for shooting RAW.
